4th of July Kids Parade Volunteer Information -2025-

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Lake Elmo 4th of July Kids Parade! Listed below are the details about each volunteer position needed for planning the event and hosting the event on July 4th! This parade is possible only because of volunteers. Please consider helping out for one or more open spots!

VOLUNTEER Role DETAILS

PLANNING / EVENT PREP

Volunteer Recruitment (June - Flexible time: 2 or 3 hours)

Volunteers Needed: 2/2

  • Share social posts for Volunteer requests
  • Help post fliers around Lake Elmo
  • Send emails and texts to friends and neighborhood groups in the Lake Elmo area

Day Before Prep (July 3rd - 8:30-10:30 am)

Volunteers Needed: 2/3

  • Meet at storage unit near Lake Elmo (info to follow)
  • Gather supplies (tables, tents, etc.) and distribute to drop off locations in Lake Elmo (truck or SUV is ideal)
  • Hang weather-proof decorations
  • Place signage in designated spots

Early Morning Set-up (July 4th 7-9:00 am)

Volunteers Needed: 4/5

  • Set up small 10x10 tents, tables and a few chairs
  • Hang decorations in Lion's Park Pavilion
  • Prepare last-minute activities details - table coverings, volunteer badges, activity supplies, etc.
  • Chalk streets (directional information, patriotic decor) 
  • Pass out vests to traffic volunteers
  • More details to follow


PARADE

Parade Line-up & Route Assistant (8:45 - 10:45 am)

Volunteers Needed: 10/10

  • Meet at the Lake Elmo Inn Event Center parking lot for volunteer vest 
  • Assist Fire Department and Sheriff's Deputies at assigned barrier location or other designated spot
  • Answer questions / direct the crowd to the line-up location, and assist with parking-related questions
  • Support crowd safety and route closure p
  • Alert leads to any questions/concerns 
  • After parade, gather signage on parade route ait off at Lion's Park Pavilion (inside)
  • Note: More details will be shared with you closer to the 4th


POST-PARADE ACTIVITIES

Face Painting Leads (9:00 Orientation) + (10:15 am - 12:30 pm)

Volunteers Needed: 2/2

  • Meet at the old Fire Station parking lot (across from Lion's Park) for brief orientation at 9:00 am 
  • There are two face painting tents/stations, so please indicate if you would like to volunteer with a specific person
  • Provide general guidance to the face painters and assist with  lines to keep things running smoothly
  • Assist with face-painting as needed
  • As crowd gets smaller, begin to clean up and pack supplies in designated bins
  • Dispose of trash and fold up tables next to bins
  • Note supply needs 

Face Painting Volunteers -Rotating (9:00 Orientation) + (10:15 am-12:30 pm)

Volunteers Needed: 10/10

  • Meet at the old Fire Station parking lot (across from Lion's Park) for brief orientation at 9:00 am
  • Paint simple designs on faces and hands/arms (templates will be available)
  • Rotate with other face-painters to enjoy other activities and take breaks
  • Assist Lead with clean-up


Craft Volunteers - Shift 1 (10:15-11:15 am)

Volunteers Needed: 3/3

  • Assist with craft projects (instructions and supplies will be communicated to you ahead of time and detailed instructions will be provided at the tent)
  • Ensure temporary tattoo table is organized / supplies are stocked
  • Assist with the donation box as needed 

Craft Volunteers - Shift 2 (11:10-12:30 am)

Volunteers Needed: 1/3

  • Assist with craft projects (instructions and supplies will be communicated to you ahead of time and detailed instructions will be provided at the tent)
  • Ensure temporary tattoo table is organized / supplies are stocked
  • Assist with the donation box as needed 

Photographers - Shift 1 (9:00-10:40 am)

Volunteers Needed: 2/2

  • Pick up your Connect Lake Elmo Volunteer Lanyard at Connect Lake Elmo tent in old Fire Station Lot
  • Take photographs of parade line-up and parade
  • Always ask permission to use on our website and for social media for close-ups of individuals or small groups (if photographing a child, please ask the adult accompanying them)
  • Crowd photos do not require permission for photographing
  • Upload photos from your shift to designated Google folder (the link will be sent to you a few days before the parade

Photographers - Shift 2 (10:00 am-noon)

Volunteers Needed: 2/2

  • Pick up your Connect Lake Elmo Volunteer Lanyard at Connect Lake Elmo tent in old Fire Station Lot
  • Take photographs parade & post-parade activities
  • Always ask permission to use on our website and for social media for close-ups of individuals or small groups (if photographing a child, please ask the adult accompanying them)
  • Crowd photos do not require permission for photographing
  • Upload photos from your shift to designated Google folder (the link will be sent to you a few days before the parade



WRAP-UP

Pack-up & Storage

Volunteers Needed: 5/5

  • Take down 10x10 tents and place in storage bags
  • Wipe down folded tables and few chairs/stools
  • Remove all signage and decorations (except for the buntings on the Lion's Park fence) and pack in designated bins
  • Document lessons learned / supply needs for next year
  • Load supplies and drive to storage unit (with Tara C.) 
  • Pick up visible trash for Public Works to collect
